A hard C’ELLE

Cryo-Cell International has announced a new, in fact, first ever “proprietary menstrual stem cell service”. A woman can hand over $500 and Cryo-Cell will send her a  premium diva cup to collect her menstrual blood, along with a fed-ex package to mail it back to Cryo-cell, who will then isolate and extract the stem cells. For another $99 per year, these cells will be stored in the event they would, one day, become useful.

Menstrual blood cells certainly do hold much potential, but the research is very preliminary, a point Cryo-Cell readily admits. This project will require a hard sell, for sure. Not only will they need to overcome the “ick” factor involved in dealing with menstrual blood, but in addition, the sheer audacity, if not outright opportunism, of charging big bucks for processing and storing something so readily available and, disposed of.

Read commentary from Michael Cook over at BioEdge. Wesley Smith weighs in, too.
